A trio of Class III rapids and beautiful surroundings make this Portland favorite one of the most frequently paddled rivers in the state. Even when other rivers run low, the North Santiam continues to deliver consistent, fun flows.

From the put-in at Packsaddle Park off Highway 22 (half-day trip), the river offers exciting boulder-dodging rapids and forested scenery. After passing under the Gates Bridge, the action picks up with some of the most thrilling sections of the trip.

Spencer’s Hole (Class III+) requires precise navigation, followed by Carnivore (Class III), a sweeping drop. The final highlight is Mill City Falls (Class III), a dramatic finish below Mill City Bridge.
