Whitewater rafting can be a wonderful experience when properly prepared. The North Santiam canyon is a beautiful micro climate between ranges and is usually quite nice compared to Portland OR. The Upper Clackamas River also offers sun on many days when it's overcast in Portland.
Depending on the weather and time of year you want to be warm, so plan for the worst. On a cold rainy day avoid wearing cotton shirts, socks and pants. Fleece jacket, Wool socks and synthetic fibers are best for warmth in water. If you call ahead a wetsuit and booties can be rented for a small fee. Splash jackets will be provided at no charge. On a hot day a good swim suit and sandals will be fine.
